Chick-fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Last week perseus.maximus and I went to Chick-fil-A to grab some lunch. We both ordered the classic chicken sandwich, but on our way out we noticed a sign for a spicy chicken sandwich. Well, today I had the pleasure of eating one of these sandwiches. I must say, Wendy’s officially has competition in the spicy chicken market.

Chick-fil-A’s spicy chicken is the same piece of chicken breast used in their original chicken sandwich. In additional to the traditional breading (another classic), Chick-fil-A throws in a blend of spicy peppers to season the chicken. I ordered the deluxe version, which adds lettuce and tomato along with the chicken breast and my combo came to a total of $5.89. I have a feeling that the chicken breast is marinated it some sort of hot sauce before breading, when I bit into my sandwich you could see where the edge of the chicken had picked up a red tint from seasoning.
Its a half-hour since I’ve finished my sandwich and I can still feel the heat on my tongue a little. Its a great feeling, because it reminds me just how nice that sandwich was. There was a great balance of heat in the seasoning, with a nice kick part way through each bite and no real strong after-taste. I believe this is what makes great spicy food, sure its easy to throw in everything and make something spicy but doing it right takes finesse. Clearly, Chick-fil-A has got it.
Apparently, the spicy chicken is only a test run in the Baltimore and Jacksonville markets for Chick-fil-A with no word on whether it will be adopted nationwide if successful [source]. If you’re listening Chick-fil-A, keep it.

Yes. But why do those bastards have to charge extra for the bit of spice…?

Yeah, seems like their cheating us for some seasoning, but the tomato and lettuce might factor in as well.

This is so fucked up! Why can’t I buy one?! I can’t believe Chick-fil-a created a spicy chicken sandwich without calling me. I’m pissed off.

And you guys are stupid. Introducing a new sandwich costs the company millions and millions of dollars. We’re not just talking about a few spices here. We’re talking about millions of sandwiches, taste tests, market reviews, trails, and errors. Of course it’s gonna cost extra! What a bunch of economic dumb shits.

While it may cost them ‘millions’ of dollars to launch a sandwich in which they already have all the materials to make (minus the aforementioned spices), do not be decieved into thinking that the company is losing money on this deal. I personally don’t mind paying that little bit extra when I’m getting a great tasting product like this. (seriously they’re like crack. delicious deep fried crack) With the resources at their disposal, this promotion is a drop in the bucket compared to the profit that will happen when this sandwich goes national.
